Pride Fest, Yard Sale, and Blessing of the Animals

We were going to take the gift shop to the Pride Fest but it was cancelled until next spring. We will have the Giant Annual Yard Sale on Oct 15th from 7 a.m until Noon. We will have children's activities such as a helicopter and fire house. We will have hot dogs, chips, and a drink for donations. We need lots of volunteers, Friday at 5 pm and Saturday at 6 am. The Blessing of the Animals will be at 10:00 am on Oct 15th. Lil Joe and Cleo will be supervising and Rev Patrick will be blessing. We have medals for all pets who are blessed. There will be an area set off where you can take a picture with your pet. The Pet Blessing will need volunteers also around 9 am. We are looking for a photographer for this event. Just see Miriam.

Yard Sale and Pet Blessings on the Horizon

We are pleased that Circle K is putting boxes in their stores in Pensacola. Holy Cross is very thankful for that parnership as the need for food for the homeless grows more each day. In the hat of the worship coordinator the new acolyte and visitation minister schedules are in the fellowship hall by the gift shop. Your schedule is in an envelope with your name on it. Independence From Hunger

The Care Cupboard is in great need. We are serving a lot of people.

The Great Annual Yard Sale will be on April 16th, 7:00 a.m.- Noon. We are looking for volunteers to help and we need lots of stuff to sell. Our Clothes Closet is full. I will be here April 11th thru April 15th, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. to take in donations. If you wish to bring items and set up an area to sell them it will be a cost of $10.00 to you.

We need mosquito netting, deep woods mosquito spray, water, toiletries, and candles for homeless veterans.

We will be helping Heartsong in May with about 60 gift bags. Look for those upcoming needs.

I am looking for 3 volunteers to help cook on Easter Sunday. You will cook and help set up the brunch and need to arrive at the church by 6:00 a.m.

I am looking for 4 volunteers to help set up our large tent, that date has not been decided as yet.

I am looking for 6 volunteers to help set up tables and take down on Easter Sunday.

The Care Cupboard is in great need. Please bring some non-perishables to church on Sunday. The congregation and church volunteers are putting a dent in the Pensacola hungry population. For your efforts I send you a very large thank you.

We have been blessed for the last ten years to have one of the premier pastors at MCC. Please come to church on Sunday and celebrate Pastor Sandy O'Steens 10th Anniversary. We also are celebrating the 34th Anniversary of the church. Rev Mozingo from Baton Rouge will be preaching. You will see some faces of pastors from the past, such as; Pastor Jo, Pastor Lee, Pastor Zaida. We will also be blessed with the presence of Rev Patrick Rogers. Come one come all. We will have church from 9:00 am. through the second service with a recognition coffee for Pastor O'Steen in-between. Come when you would like to we will be here to welcome you.

The Care Cupboard is in strong need. We feed a lot of people. The hot lunch area on Wednesday fed 76 people last month and the food pantry the same. Our benevolence at Holy Cross MCC is getting well known all over Pensacola.

The Care Ministry needs volunteers for FROG Fest,Yard Sale and Pet Blessings, October 16, 2010, 7am-12pm. We will need volunteers to organize a couple of weeks prior to the event. Please no more clothes donations, running out of space to put other things. A volunteer is needed to drive the church van on Sundays. Plastic bags are needed for the food pantry. The Care Minister will be at the Excel Retreat, Oct 1-3, 2010. Come join us if you can. The Holy Cross MCC gift shop will be at Pride Fest, Oct 9, come celebrate Pride. Please see Miriam for further details or to sign up to volunteer. Remember the Christmas Shoe-box project is in the wings. Start saving the shoe box items to include; school supplies, small toys, hygiene items (toothbrush,toothpaste,soap,etc.),hard candies, t-shirts, ball-caps, etc. As always thank you very much for all of your donations to include time and treasures. The Pet Ministry has received a great deal of new food for our fuzzy friends, thank you. Gateway church had a number of chicken and cornbread casseroles leftover from Angel Food Ministries. I went and picked up 3 cartons of 18 each to feed the homeless on Wednesdays. I was told last week that Chris and Charles will discontinue driving the van at the end of July (other commitments). I will be down to one driver again and am looking for volunteers. Please help. I have approximately 200 LP's that were donated and am in the process of cataloging them. We have someone to put them on E-Bay and could quite possibly make some money for the benevolence fund. God is great;God is good, spread his love at all times. Blessings, Miriam

Feeding the Homeless

The Care Ministry has been providing groceries for about 70 people each month. The homeless are also being fed a hot meal by Becca, Che, and Jes. If you would have the time to cook something for at least 15-20 on Wednesdays, please let me know. Our caring and generous "Southern Hospitality Team: and the church provided an excellent meal for Cela McPherson's Mother's memorial. If you did not come to the memorial you missed some excellent music and commentary. Kathy Raidy is in Baptist Hospital with pneumonia, Bob Toholsky is at Baptist Hospital with kidney problems. Sheri Crooke is in the nursing home located behind West Florida in Room 320, she will be there until the end of the month, and could probably use a visit. Pray for your church often. Being Cold Is Not Easy

Thw month of January 2010 was very cold. One of our Outreach friends Lori has been passing out blankets and food from her car. A couple of Sundays ago we handed out socks and canned food for the congregation to hand to a homeless person. We have heard some good results from doing that for the homeless. We have 3 new people wanting to drive the Transportation van. A meeting will be held this Saturday so we can work out a schedule and they will have to drive only once every 3 weeks. I will be doing a bible study in February on Wednesdays (Feb 17th will be excluded because it is Ash Wednesday)and we will be eating every Wednesday at 6:30 pm with service at 7p.m. We have a queen size bed and double bed in the warehouse if you are in need. We are in need of packages of socks so we can do more of the sock ministry. We give out food 12-4 on Wednesdays, and Jess prepares a hot meal for everyone. We have a new Care Cupboard brochure, please look at one. We will be taking this brochure to the community soon. February 14th is "Share Your Heart Sunday. bring 1 item of non-perishable food to fill the Care Cupboard. There will be a brochure advertising this event handed out February 7th. The Care Ministry would like to thank Donna Lolling for her tireless work on the making of the two new brochures. There will still be a large box in the fellowship hall for any used or new toys. The Parent Place at Children's Services is always in need, not just at Christmas Time. There will be a visitiation training on January 23 from 10-11 a.m. in the Sunday School room. You will be trained to visit hospitals and homes for people in our congregation. The Blessings at Holy Cross Are Abundant

We have finally found a bed for a family in dire need. The grounds are being kept up by Becca in extraordinary fashion and J. C. had been giving her some help. Jess Morgan has been cooking on Wednesdays for the homeless and I am hear to tell you it is some good eatin', Jess will be cooking on Wednesdays until after Advent. We had a Merry Christmas time at the party on Friday evening. Lots of children were able to tell Santa their wishes and plenty of food and dancing was available to all. On Saturday, Dec 19th, approximately 12 people visited Asbury Place for the assisted living. The blessings were huge for all of us. I am trying to think of something we can give the staff at that facility to show them we care about what they do. We are truly a blessed church and our love is shown every we go. What a gift our God has given to us and he knows we will take care of it. We are still looking for used or new toys for Children's Services Parent Place if you have anything you would like to contribute. Everyone of you make my job very easy because of your gift of caring. Christmas Needs and Deeds

All of the Angel Ornaments have been pulled from the Angel Tree. The choir, Santa Claus, Pastor Sandy, and myself will be going to Ashbury Place, Saturday, Dec 19th at 6:15. Miriam will meet you at the church at 5:30 pm so you can follow to the assisted living facility. The address is 4916 Mobile Hwy, Ashbury Place, almost directly across from Sacred Heart Physical Therapy. We are still in need of used and new toys for the Children's Services Parent Place if you were unable to get a tree ornament. All that you give is always so much appreciated. We are such a caring church, when a need is expressed it is fulfilled. There are many people who are alone this time of year, please seek them out to let them know they are loved by you and the Lord. We had 28 Christmas shoeboxes go to Olive Baptist. Outstanding, every year there is more. We distributed 9 Thanksgivig Baskets, thanks to all who participated. An Angel Tree went up last Saturday for the Assisted Living Facility, Ashbury PLace, there are 55 clients on the tree. There needs seem to be very simple. We have already had 29 angels take from the tree. Please stop by and pull an angel from the tree. These gifts should be returned by Dec 18th. The Fellowship and Care Ministry are partnering in forming a new team called "Southern Hospitality". You will be called in the event a casserole, dessert, salad, etc. is needed because of congregation tradgedies. You may start signing up on November 15th in the Fellowship Hall. Please remember that your Christmas Shoeboxes are due to the church by November 22nd. See sample shoeboxes in the Fellowship Hall, along with information pertaining to them. If you are signed up for a Thanksgiving basket please bring them to the church by November 23rd. There are boxes in the Fellowship Hall for this purpose. I haven't as yet been to the nursing home for our Angel Tree but hope to accomplish this next week. We are blessed that Hurricane Ida came in as a tropical storm. Please remember that the Care Ministry has very little space at the moment if you should happen to have large items notify the Care Minister and quite possibly I could store these items at my home for use at the April Yard Sale. Please try to donate all clothes to Loaves and Fishes, Salavation Army, Goodwill, or the Waterfront mission for the time being. "Blessed are you, O God for your care for the poor is unending. The Holidays Are Upon Us

Because of the economy being the way that it is,I am already receiving calls for assistance at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please consider making a Thanksgiving Basket for a needy family. There is a sign up sheet in the fellowship hall along with a list of suggestions for filling the basket.(on the card table with the Christmas shoebox sign-up). As soon as I recieve the boxes for the baskets I will make sure that you get one. If you have cans for Joe and Cleo during the month of November, please bring them to church and give them to Miriam. Your Care Minister is in the process of finding a nursing home and using their clients for our Angel Tree, (more to come on this endeavor).
A prayer for us to give us strength and peace sometimes when things get hectic.

The Care Ministry Is Downsizing

I hope all of you visit my blog often as we have all of the Care Ministry goings on on one page. You can go to my blog and receive what ever information you may need, if you don't find an answer, please see me so we can help. The Care Ministry has down sized to just one room as we are making room for the childrens' and youth ministries. Our needs at present are food for the pantry, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, etc. for the homeless. Please take all other items to the Waterfront mission or Loaves and Fishes. We will start gathering items in April 2010for the yard sale. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with the yard sale on October 17th. You all are very much appreciated. We couldn't accomplish anything without you. Thank you Dusty Joe and Cleo for an outstanding job on the Pet Blessing this year and especially for the great flyball demonstration. We have the Christmas shoebox area set up in the Fellowship Hall,so that you may start packing your shoeboxes. Please return the shoeboxes by November 22nd. Great Trip and I Am Working Again

I returned from vacation on August 5 and hit the floor running. I had a great time and but sure do miss my family and friends. I probably should go to see them more often than I do. There will be a FROG Fest meeting on Friday, August 21, at 5p.m. All volunteers are welcome to come and see where they might be needed. FROG Fest will be held on October 17th. Mother Hubbards' Cupboard is completely bare, if there is anyway you can donate food to the food pantry, please help. We are feeding from 20-25 families weekly. A lot more people in Escambia County are without food and shelter because of the recession. Excel of the Sand Dollar will be held from Oct 3-5th, please consider attending this worthwhile retreat. Pride Fest will be held at Seville Park on October 10, the Care Ministry and Outreach Ministry will be present in the park for this event. Dont forget the Pet Blessing will be held the same day as FROG Fest. Our next yard sale is the same day as FROG Fest. Arrived Safely in Iowa

I have arrived safely in Iowa after driving 1212 miles, lots of delays from construction and traffic accidents. My sister, brother-in-law and I went to a casino yesterday and I won $65.00 on the penny machine. It takes a while to click off 6000 pennies but it was fun sitting there watching it click. I will be seeing my two new great-nieces this evening and we will be off to see my other sister tomorrow morning. Family is a good thing, it makes your heart feel good. I apologize for not changing my blog for a while but I was having some sort of network problem. It wouldn't let me change it when I tried. Hopefully this blog will happen. Our Care Pantry is very small. We basically need items that the homeless people can use, such as; anything with a pop top,(meats,beans&franks. ham spread, vienna sausages,), crackers,puddings,pop top soups. We are serving more people without homes, which is sad. We are also in need of small toothpastes, toothbrushes, bar soap, small shampoos, deodorants,and combs. Happenings in the Care Ministry

The Yard Sale was a success. In the last 6 months the congregation has generated enough donations to make over $2100.00 for the Benevolence Fund. Our Earth Day service and celebration was very uplifting and I believe we left the church wanting to make a change somehow for our planet. We had ice cream sundaes for our Volunteers the following Sunday. It was quite apparent that our church just would not run without our volunteers. For that we are thankful and grateful. At present there are many needs in the community, first and foremost Ms. Margaret was found a new home by our Pastor and she presently has only her clothes. I know a lot of you know already about her plight and I am sure she will have her needs met shortly. In advance the Care Ministry thanks everyone for all contributions. Great Annual Yard Sale (GAYS)

The yard sale on April 4th is in full swing. We have some very hard working volunteers who are working diligently to get the items priced. We even found a picture that needed an appraisal and found that selling it for $5.00 would have been a crime. Recyling and Great Annual Yard Sale

We were unable to generate enough for the recyle area. Their costs were to high to continue it for us. Please if you live in Escambia County, stay green and request a recycle container from www.ecua.com. We will be having a yard sale on April 4, 2009.
We have a lot of donations and very little space so we will be having 2 yard sales a year. We will need a lot of volunteers, please see Miriam. We will start taking in items on March 16, 2009 through April 3, 2009. Miriam will be at the warehouse from 12-6 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you bring clothes please make sure they are laundered and folded, or hung on hangers. We are in need of high ticket items like recliners,couches,televisions,any kind of furniture. I have someone that needs a refrigerator at present if you know of anyone that has one. Miriam is in need of a riding mower for her home if anyone has one. I have had a lot of volunteers give their time recently, it certainly helps our Care Ministry and we are very thankful. Christmas Giving

The Care Ministry wishes to thank everyone who participated in the Christmas Shoeboxes and the Appetite for Life Angel Tree. It is important that we all realize that our giving fills someone else's heart over the holidays. Pastor Sandy and I delivered 44 shoeboxes to Olive Baptist Church, which is quite a bit more than last year. Next year we are talking about doing an angel tree for a nursing home. All that we do blesses others and in return we receive blessings. Happy Holidays to all from the Care Ministry. We couldn't do what we do without our congregation.

Caring For Others At Thanksgiving and Christmas

We are presently in the middle of making Christmas shoeboxes to send to children internationally. Please pick up a brochure in the gift shop area. We have new Holy Cross MCC t-shirts and golf shirts. Come take a look. We found a vendor that was very good to us so the t-shirts are $10 and the golf shirts are $15. Just in time for Christmas giving. We have Holiday Harvest for Thanksgiving and the flyer may be picked up in the foyer or gift shop area. We already have 10 baskets on our list. After Christmas decorations go up an Angel Tree will go up for the clients of Appetite for Life. They want us to get their clients sweatshirts/sweatpants. You will pull a tag off the tree which will give you gender and size. Please wrap it up and bring it back to the church and put it under the tree. Hello,fellow congregants;
The Care Ministry will over the next few months be involved with a lot of new things. I will be with the Excel Team for 4 days the first week of October. The 2nd Weekend in October is Pride Fest at the park. The third weekend is October 18th and the FROG Fest. We would like all volunteers to attend a meeting on September 28th after church. We have a lot to organize and can't do it without the many volunteers who give their time. We will be giving out t-shirts on the 28th to be worn on fest day to distinquish the volunteers. We are looking at another way to do the turkeys this year. Olive Baptist should be calling me shortly in regards to the Christmas shoeboxes. If you want to donate items for the yard sale, I will be at the church on Sep 22nd, Seo 24th, and Sep 26 from Noon-6. The FROG fest is evolving nicely {Oct 18th}. We have lots of entertainment being lined up. We are hoping that this event will be annual. The meeting last Saturday brought up the need for porta potties, a need for security and parking attendants, electricity needed, and yard sale organization and grab bag table. The Care Ministry food pantry is just open on Wednesdays from 12- 4. The Care Pantry is always in need of donations and God keeps the shelves lined for those in need. Holy Cross Fall Festival

We are in the process of planning a fall festival. The Council of Ministries plus many volunteers will meet shortly. I have a phone call into Doug Landreth to find out when "Come Out Pensacola" will be held this year. We don't want to interfere with that date. We are thinking of having the yard sale,pet blessing, numerous vendors, and a family fun day all on a Saturday in October of this year. If you have any ideas please come to the meeting as soon as the date is published. I just wanted to say that we always have food for the homeless and home emergencies. We have never turned away anybody when it comes to food. Our pastor is on sabbatical and we certainly pray that she rests and comes back revived. Our Care ministries are in good shape and the volunteers that take care of each program certainly are due lots of thanks. Our recycling effort is working well. Thank you very much. Mr. Ray McCoy was able to procure three tubs of food from the Warrington Food Pantry. Thank you, Ray. We have constant donations for the food pantry and for that we thank you. The Care Minister is coming around to being Miriam again. After having surgery it takes a while to get it back together and I am just about there. Thank you for all of your prayers. I now have been taken off 7 medications, I should be down to almost none soon. All of our Care Ministries are flourishing well. Thank you very much for all of your prayers and well wishes. I am back to my normal self (whatever that is) and feeling much better. We are very thankful to a lot of people because they are feeding a lot of people. We just don't run out, God continues to give because we care. Recycle for the Planet

Starting on March 16, 2008 there will be a blue recycle receptacle just inside the front gate to the left. You may bring cardboard(please flatten),aluminum, plastic,newspaper, soup cans, dressings (please rinse out). You do not need to sort the items. We thank you for helping to make our planet green. Our pantry is very very low and we are in need of canned meats, soups, and pasta sauce and pastas(macaroni,spahetti,and macaroni and cheese. Try to buy these items with pop tops on them, if possible. Healing

We have a lot of people in the process of physical healing. Melissa Featherstone returned home from the hospital on Monday. Donna Lolling had surgery on Wednesday all went well. Cell Phones, etc.

Please bring cell phones you are not using to the church for the Care Ministry. Just put them by the "Feed the Lambs" box in the foyer. The Care Pantry is serving a lot of homeless. The homeless rate in Pensacola is huge. Help them out when you are able. Carry socks, canned meats,and crackers in your vehicle for those times you are able to help. The Manna Food Bank sent a thank you note for the 27lbs of food that Holy Cross donated. In the administration building there is a Care Ministry Board that gives you a lot of answers to fill needs. Things such as glasses, dental work,mammograms, health clinics, church on wheels. If you have a need please see the Care Minister, Miriam or go on the web page and turn in a care request. We were asked by the Manna Food Bank to help with their food drive. We had an abundance of canned vegetables in the Care Pantry so we were able to help them out. I go once every two weeks to Sheri Crooke's house to pick up food for distribution. I am going this month to see Angel Food Ministries to check out that operation. I was able to find a outlet for cell phones. He told me he would pay me for the phones and whatever he couldn't use would be sent to the troops in Irag. Please bring in your old phones,(thank you in advance). There are a lot of avenues we can use to help our community and recycle is something I am checking out. A Church That Cares

We delivered 18 Christmas shoeboxes to Olive Baptist church. We delivered 9 thanksgiving baskets to people in need. Please continue to fill the food pantry as we are at a low. We are feeding a lot of homeless people and giving them blankets and socks. We had people from the neighborhood at the thanksgiving dinner and the dinner was quite enjoyable with lots of new faces. Getting Ready

As Pastor Sandy has said many times lately the energy in the church is huge. I have felt that energy and find many people excited about our church dedication. A Visit with Carmon

I visited Carmon this afternoon and found her to be in great spirits and looking very healthy. She has decided to have surgery and that will happen about the middle of September. Blood Drive

Kudos to Melissa Featherstone for organizing the blood drive. We had 39 people who tried to give blood, 24 people who did give blood and 11 of those 24 were first time givers. Warehouse Cleaning and Straightening

It is really great to be in our new building. The love I felt and saw in the church on Sunday was awesome.

The Care Team will be putting together the gift shop for the sanctuary. We will be putting together a one stop shopping area in the warehouse,to include food, toiletries, and clothes for people in need. Hopefully we can accomplish this within the next two weeks.

We have had many donations recently that have to be moved like furniture and household items. We will announce for volunteers to help move items within a few days.

We will be announcing a yard sale soon and we will be accepting items.

Praises for Our Lord

Joey Bishop came through his surgery well and his shoulder has been repaired. He will be recovering at home for about 3 weeks.

My sister Joan and I have been sharing with each other since she arrived on Tuesday.

The food pantry is in need of meats, canned goods, and macaroni/cheese.

There is about a dozen loaves of rye bread in the freezer in the warehouse if you are in need.

I returned from Phoenix with a bit of bronchitis and waited too long to go to the doctor, thusly I spent almost 3 days in bed last week. Thank you very much for all the caring phone calls. As I write this blog many members of the congregation are in need of prayer and healing.

Tina Destafano's Mother passed. Please put Tina and Shawn along with the family in your prayers.
Cathy Raidy has heard disturbing news from her doctor and needs prayers for healing.
Karin Anderson's Mom needs prayer for healing as she is in the hospital.
Carmon has to have another brain operation and needs prayer to help with that decision.

There are lots of people who need our caring help. I will from time to time let you know what is going on in the Care Ministry.

1. Today Sheri Crooke needs your help in the way of furniture, pots and pan, dishes, etc. for her apartment.
